To add to the archives, an article about Sexual Racism Sex appeared in a Vancouver arts and entertainment newspaper, the Georgia Straight, in August 2006. I was happy that we got this publicity, as it demonstrated to me that the issue of sexual racism in both the gay community and broader community was becoming more and more visible over time. I noticed little or no discussion when we started the campaign, to more and more discussion, and then the issue moving beyond gay men to discussions in the mainstream.
The only weird thing was that they grabbed a random photo either from my website or Facebook profile, and used it without my permission. In the photo, I’m with a colleague from work! I think it makes it look like he’s one of the personal-ad activists, or is a boyfriend, and yup, it was weird for them to do that. So, in this version, I’m covering up his image.
